As we were looking to spend a week-end in this Bavarian castle region, we compiled the list of cheap hotels around Neuschwanstein Castle. Cheap hotels does not necessarily mean low quality, as we are always looking for the best quality / price ratio.

We looked on a 5km radius around the castle, so that you can choose to walk or drive from / to your hotel. When you go by car, best is to leave the car in the parking lot at the foot of the older Hohenschwangau Castle and then stroll to the more famous and younger castle.

There are no hotels part of big international chains - all of them are family owned traditional hotels (or guest-houses).

We looked for properties that fit a budget of around € 100 per night for a double room. Anything more is just not worth it.

We excluded properties that do not offer any Internet connection or parking. We excluded also hostels (or any property with shared bathrooms).

Here we go with our list of the most affordable hotels for Neuschwanstein Castle, starting with the cheapest ones (we left out those that are of such poor quality, that you risk ruining your vacation):

Similarly to the previous offer, it is valid only for week-end stays of minimum 2 nights (arrival on a Friday or Saturday).

Free breakfast for summer weekends at Hyatt properties in Germany

In the search results, this promotion is shown as "Summer Special". Rates are flexible, so you can cancel in case plans change.

The rate is advertised as giving 15% discount plus free breakfast, but we noted that, in fact, the actual discount is only the free breakfast:

- the "Summer Special" rate is approximately the same with the regular "Hyatt Daily Rate", thus meaning that the only added benefit is the free breakfast;

- the "Summer Special" rate is about 20% less than the regular "Bed and Breakfast" rate, which represents more or less the value of breakfast.

Best value for money hotel chain in France - Ibis Styles (formerly All Seasons)

We do not travel to France for holidays very often.

And one of the reasons is the very poor availability of good quality / price hotels. In France one usually finds either very expensive 4 star hotels, either low quality budget chains.

Under these circumstances, we find the Ibis Styles chain to be the best hotel chain in France.

Ibis Styles is a rather new concept for the Accor Hotels group (which owns also more up-market chains such as Mercure, Novotel, Sofitel). It was previously called All Seasons, but with the recent rebranding it became Ibis Styles, the third Ibis brand, along with the former Etap Hotels now called Ibis Budget.

Why we like the Ibis Styles hotels:

- they are all new or refurbished properties, so the rooms are functional and modern;

- they offer free buffet breakfast and free internet. The breakfast is only continental, with no hot food, but you can find something to eat for all tastes;

- most of them have a central location, so it is convenient both for tourists, as well as business guests.

In France, we have so far we have stayed at the Ibis Styles Nantes Centre Place Royale, Ibis Styles Grenble Centre Gare and  Ibis Styles Lyon La Part Dieu.

We have also stayed at two of their properties in Germany: Ibis Styles Dusseldorf Neuss and Ibis Styles Berlin Mitte. We booked those rooms at a 50% discount during the regular Accor private sales, otherwise in Germany one can find better hotels at the same price.
