Best value for money hotel chain in France - Ibis Styles (formerly All Seasons)

We do not travel to France for holidays very often.

And one of the reasons is the very poor availability of good quality / price hotels. In France one usually finds either very expensive 4 star hotels, either low quality budget chains.

Under these circumstances, we find the Ibis Styles chain to be the best hotel chain in France.

Ibis Styles is a rather new concept for the Accor Hotels group (which owns also more up-market chains such as Mercure, Novotel, Sofitel). It was previously called All Seasons, but with the recent rebranding it became Ibis Styles, the third Ibis brand, along with the former Etap Hotels now called Ibis Budget.

Why we like the Ibis Styles hotels:

- they are all new or refurbished properties, so the rooms are functional and modern;

- they offer free buffet breakfast and free internet. The breakfast is only continental, with no hot food, but you can find something to eat for all tastes;

- most of them have a central location, so it is convenient both for tourists, as well as business guests.

In France, we have so far we have stayed at the Ibis Styles Nantes Centre Place Royale, Ibis Styles Grenble Centre Gare and  Ibis Styles Lyon La Part Dieu.

We have also stayed at two of their properties in Germany: Ibis Styles Dusseldorf Neuss and Ibis Styles Berlin Mitte. We booked those rooms at a 50% discount during the regular Accor private sales, otherwise in Germany one can find better hotels at the same price.

When to book your accommodation with Hotels.com

Hotels.com is one of the best known hotel booking websites (alongside Booking.com, Orbitz, Travelocity).

However, Hotels.com does not always provide the best prices that can be found for all your travel dates.

For example, we do not use it very often, but only every once in a while (on average we only use it for about 1 in every 10 of our bookings).

Based on our past experience, we're listing below the circumstances when we think Hotels.com might be a good option for your hotel reservations:

Small towns

Hotels.com has one of the largest hotel inventories among the online travel agencies.

This means that when travelling to small or remote locations, you have a better chance of finding a good accommodation option through Hotels.com.

Promotional / discount codes

When prices offered by all bookings websites are the same, Hotels.com often offers a 10% promo code.

However, these promo codes do not work at large international chains such as Hilton, Holiday Inn, Marriott, etc.

Get 1 free night with every 10 nights spent

If you travel rather often, then you might consider the Welcome Rewards promotion. This means that for every 10 nights spent at qualifying hotels, you will get a free night from Hotels.com.

The value of the free night is the average of the price paid for the 10 nights spent. You must create an free account to accumulate the night spent.

In practice, this will mean that 10% of the value of each hotel room will be returned to you through the form of an 11th free night.

Of course, this is worth when you cannot find the same hotel elsewhere for at least 10% cheaper.

Pay at the hotel option

There aren't that many websites that offer the flexibility of a refundable rate that can be paid directly at the hotel.

If flexibility is important and you do not want to pay in advance, then Hotels.com also offers rates that are refundable and are to be paid upon check-out directly at the hotel.
